Legislation to license home repair contractors will be drawn up soon for review by the City Council.
During a Governmental Operations Committee meeting Monday, Councilman Henry S. DeLegge said he had been "burned once" by contractors who took money up front, then did not return to do the work.
Councilman David P. Nowak said he knew of a woman living alone who paid $10,000 for a new roof which wound up leaking and causing $3,000 in damage to household items.
"The contractor did nothing to undo the wrong so the woman was out the $3,000 plus she had to get the roof re- repaired," Nowak said.
