WILMINGTON, DE -- Fisker Automotive has selected a former General Motors assembly plant in Wilmington, DE, to build plug-in, family-oriented plug-in hybrid sedans projected to cost as little as $39,900.
Production is scheduled to begin in late 2012. Fisker Automotive says the plant will employ about 2,000, and create some 3,000 vendor and supplier jobs by 2014.
At full capacity, the plant will produce between 75,000 and 100,000 vehicles per year.
The company says more than half of these vehicles will be exported, the largest percentage of any domestic manufacturer.
